GRADUATE STUDENT WORKSHOP 2011

November 16, 2018

EUROPEANIZATION: EU AND BEYOND

Europeanization studies have become a fruitful academic field for scholars interested in analyzing the patterns of political as well as economic transformation and convergence in member, candidate, associate, and neighboring states of the EU. Numerous analytical and case-studies on Europeanization have revealed that it is not a singular, uniform, and automatic process, but one that takes many forms, occurs at various levels, and is dependent on certain conditions. This workshop is especially interested in analyzing how, the degree to which, and the conditions under which Europeanization extends to new member states and to candidate, associate and neighboring countries of the EU. As the EU’s enlargement policy nears its limits, a systematic analysis of the potentials and limits of Europeanization beyond the EU becomes critical to our understanding of the future evolution of the European order.

The first day of the workshop featured talks and presentations by leading scholars in the field of Europeanization studies. On the second day of the workshop, the graduate students presented their papers in panels, where the scholars served as discussants.
